Coconut Oil For Your Skin, Hair and More
Coconut oil is safe to apply topically on your skin. Some years back, individuals didn’t know the benefits of coconut oil for their skin, but now we have a ton of research and numerous examples that show how this oil is helpful for skin and hair. Coconut oil is often found in many of today’s face creams and beauty products. And you can save a ton of money using these great tips while adding to your own personal beauty regime!
How To Use It As A Body Scrub:
This scrub is a great exfoliant. You’ll want to use sugar or salt that is coarse. Measure out one-quarter cup of the coarse sugar or salt. Then mix in one-half cup of coconut oil. Your skin is kept hydrated by the oil even after in dissolves in the sugar or salt.
Great DIY Body Lotion:
For those of you who love to make your own lotions, try using coconut oil as the base. Then add in the other ingredients as you normally would.
One thing I love to do that’s super simple is to get an empty container, add a cup of my regular lotion, then add in one-quarter cup of coconut oil. It’s fast and easy and great for the skin.
De-Frizz Your Hair:
Using this treatment, you will eliminate fly-aways. Just put a dot of coconut oil in the palm of your hands and rub them together. This will soften the coconut oil and distribute it. Then run your fingers through your hair from about mid-shaft to the ends. Be careful not to over-do, especially you have fine or thin hair; or you’ll end up weighing down the hair and looking blah.
Use Coconut Oil An An Under-Eye Cream:
Special under-eye creams are getting so expensive any more. Why spend all that money when you have a great alternative right at home for fractions of a penny? Just dab a little bit under each eye on lines and wrinkles. And because it’s so gentle, it’s even safe for sensitive skin.
Scars and Stretch-Marks:
Stretch marks can be an embarrassment, let’s face it. Try using coconut oil to soften them and help prevent them getting worse or coming on altogether. This is especially effective for mothers-to-be. It’s also great for scars for the same reasons. Although it won’t make the scars magically disappear, it will soften them and help them from getting any worse.
Functions as Balm for the Lips:
Dry lips can be painful, especially when they crack and get really sore. Get a small purse-size container and put coconut oil in it. It’s fine if it sets up. Just rub your finger across it then apply it to your lips. It feels great and will help heal those chapped lips and make them soft again.
Use As Body Oil:
Try using coconut oil right after you shower or bathe. This little trick can save a lot of money on expensive body oils. As soon as you are done taking a shower, rub coconut oil on your skin while it is still wet, then lightly pat dry. You’ll love the light pleasant scent and your skin will feel great.
Try Using Coconut Oil As A Night Cream:
Prior Try using coconut oil at night before bed. That will give it time to penetrate the skin and super moisturize. It’s very beneficial for those fine lines and wrinkles that none of us want to look at.
A Great Makeup Remover:
One of the great things about coconut oil is how effectively it can remove waterproof mascara, as well as other makeup you like to wear. Rub it onto your face and give it a second to soak it, then just wipe it off and wash your face as usual. Simple, cheap and effective. Can’t beat that. And it will help to soften and moisturize the skin.
Use As A Hair Protein Shield:
Coconut oil is great at helping to stop your hair from breaking off. One of the reasons for this is the lauric acid and the fatty acids. They bind to the hair to help make it strong. You can massage it into your scalp and hair, then wash it out. It will take 2-3 shampoos, but is so worth it.
Use As Moisture Seal:
A specific moisture quantity is essential for a hair that is healthy, and for this reason frequent use of coconut oil becomes the good option. The hair becomes safe against extreme heat and ecological pollutions as the coconut oil enters into the shaft of the hair.
Hair Nourishment:
Shiny lustrous hair is something we all want, and coconut oil is a great way to help get and maintain that. Be sure to use coconut oil in your diet. It contains iron as well as Vitamins K and K, in addition to all the great fatty acids your hair loves. And if you use it as a scalp massage, you can also control dandruff with it since the lauric acid kills off bacteria and germs.
Increase the Blood Circulation In Your Scalp:
This is another reason to use coconut oil to massage the scalp. It will not only enhance the flow of blood in the scalp, but will provide needed oxygen and nutrients to help maintain those beautiful locks.
Coconut Oil Has Antifungal and Antibacterial Properties:
The hair and scalp contains enormous amounts of bacteria that can lead to a number of unwanted scalp conditions, such as lice and dandruff. Coconut oil possesses anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that make sure that lice, dandruff and other unwanted conditions stay away from your hair!
A Great Cuticle Oil:
This is a very effective and super easy way to keep your cuticles nice and avoid those nasty hangnails. Just rub a dab in around the nail, preferably at nighttime before bed so you’re not washing it off right away. Plus, it will help your manicure last longer, too.
Keeps Your Cosmetics Brushes Clean and Smooth:
We should all be washing our makeup brushes on a regular basis. Washing them monthly is the absolute minimum. To help keep the bristles of your brushes nice, plus kill of germs and bacteria try this: Mix one-part coconut oil with two-parts antibacterial soap. Your brushes will love you.
No Need For Expensive Shaving Creams:
Just because something lathers, doesn’t mean it’s an effective shaving cream. You can get much more benefit and smoother skin by using coconut oil. Just smooth on the coconut oil and shave. Your legs won’t feel dehydrated and your skin will feel silky.
Get Relief From Itching:
Just dab coconut oil onto burns, bug bites, etc. The lauric acid in the coconut oil will help to sanitize the area through its antifungal, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties and calm down the affected area without irritating it.
Use Coconut Oil In Your DIY Antiperspirant:
DIY anything is very popular these days and that includes making your own antiperspirant. Here’s a great recipe to try.
- One-quarter cup of arrowroot power.
- One-third cup of coconut oil.
- 4 tablespoons of cornstarch.
- A few drops (about 5-10) of an essential oil like tea tree oil, frankincense, orange or lavender.
Now just mix it all together. You may need to use a pastry cutter or fork to blend in the coconut oil to the dry ingredients.
Apply with a cotton ball.
Freshen Your Breath:
As you know by now, coconut oil is full of lauric acid, which makes it anti-bacterial and antimicrobial. And that makes it perfect for swishing and killing off germs. Just put a little in your mouth and swish it around for 1-2 minutes. You’ll kill off the bad bacteria that contribute to bad breath and help to strengthen your gums and whiten your teeth at the same time.
How To Deal With Split Ends:
Honestly, just about the only real way to get rid of split ends is to trim them off. But, if you’re looking for help in stopping from ever getting to that point, here’s a great tip. We’ll use the same method for softening and liquifying coconut oil we’ve already talked about. Put a dab on coconut oil in the palm of your hand and rub them together. Then, sparingly, run your fingers through the ends of your hair. This little trick is a great defense against split ends and helping you grow your hair and keep it strong.
These are just some of the ways you can use coconut oil to save money and help you look and feel great. Be sure to experiment, as there are lots of other ways you can use it for self-care, too!
And be sure you’re using virgin coconut oil, regardless of the way you’re using it. Here’s a great one that’s recommended.
